Thirty years of clinical practice, always the same question:
What’s best to do, and for whom.

There is no answer that fits every patient. There is the best answer for this patient, at this moment, given this prognosis. Periodontology, implantology and smile esthetics at COBE Dental, the practice I co-founded in Bologna, and the same question I bring to the courses and lectures I give for colleagues, in Italy and abroad.

01 · About

One team, thirty years,
two continents.

For thirty years focused exclusively on periodontology and implantology, at COBE Dental in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna). A path of training that bridges Italian and American dental education, in the service of oral health and smile esthetics.

Dr. Diego Capri is a dentist who has focused exclusively on periodontology and implantology for thirty years, with particular attention to periodontal surgery and the surgical aspects of complex oral rehabilitation. He practices at COBE Dental in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna), where, together with his partners and the practice’s team, he combines scientific rigor with a personalized clinical approach for every patient.

He graduated with honors in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics from the University of Bologna, then furthered his training in the United States, earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Periodontology from Boston University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Alongside his clinical practice, he is active in teaching: he runs theoretical and hands-on courses in periodontology and implantology for fellow clinicians, and lectures in Italy and abroad at universities, scientific societies and leading academies in the field. Learn more under Training →

He is an active member of SIdP (the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology), IAO (the Italian Academy of Osseointegration), and the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He has also long been involved with the Associazione Nazionale Dentisti Italiani (ANDI), the Italian National Dental Association.

Despite a demanding clinical schedule, he has built a steady record of scientific output over the years: co-author of 19 publications in national and international journals, cited more than 300 times in the literature.

02 · Areas of expertise

Three disciplines,
one clinical vision.

I.

Periodontology

In its advanced forms, periodontitis is a chronic disease: keeping it under control over time depends largely on the patient. My work doesn’t end with treating the lesion: it means caring for the person living with the disease.

  • Diagnosis and non-surgical therapy
  • Resective and regenerative surgery: knowing when to remove and when to add
  • Long-term monitoring and maintenance programs

II.

Implantology

Implant surgery is preceded by an accurate diagnosis and by patient preparation, work that is often underestimated, yet it’s what allows the implant-supported restoration to last over time without the complications that, unfortunately, the literature documents as anything but rare.

  • Diagnosis and pre-surgical planning
  • Risk-factor control before surgery
  • Long-term implant-supported restorations

III.

Smile Esthetics

Esthetics isn’t created. It emerges.

It doesn’t come from a single procedure. It isn’t the result of surgery alone. It doesn’t depend solely on prosthetics, orthodontics, or technology.

It emerges when biology, function, technique and time find their balance, through a truly interdisciplinary approach.

It is the outcome of hundreds of small clinical decisions. Because in complex systems, no single factor explains the result. It is their harmony that generates beauty.

03 · Projects

Four projects,
the same question, applied elsewhere.

Courses, a book, a software project and a clinical documentation project: different ways of bringing the same rigor beyond the practice, into training colleagues, organizing clinical work, and visually communicating surgery.

Software project · 2021

Lab4D

Founding partner of Lab4D, alongside Stefano Gracis, Domenico Massironi, Luca Savio and Andrea Faggian. The group provided the clinical know-how behind the development of a software platform for managing a dental practice’s clinical and non-clinical workflows.

Book · Quintessence, 2024

The Lean Dental Office

Co-written with Stefano Gracis and Andrea Faggian, published in Italian and English. It applies Lean Organization principles and the PDCA cycle to practice management, the same principles that have guided COBE Dental’s organization ever since.

Training · Twenty years in the making, relaunched in 2025

Real Perio

The clinical periodontology course I teach with Luigi Minenna and Denise Calzolari, building on teaching work I began more than twenty years ago and rethought in 2025 around one clear idea: no filler content added just to pad the program. Only what works, only when it’s needed, in the patient’s interest.

04 · Let’s continue

I’m Diego Capri.
If you’ve made it this far, you have a question too.

Whether you’re looking for someone to take care of your oral health, or a clinical conversation with a colleague, the starting point is the same: a conversation. Write to me, and let’s see if I can help.
